Minority calls for Ablakwa’s removal Over US visa freeze, citing “amateur diplomacy”

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has demanded the removal of Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, citing his handling of the recent US visa freeze as a threat to the country’s economy and international reputation.

Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, Deputy Ranking Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, criticized Ablakwa’s “megaphone diplomacy” and “amateur approach,” saying it’s antagonized international partners and put Ghana’s interests at risk.

“Instead of quietly resolving technical issues with the US embassy, we witnessed public posturing, tit-for-tat gestures, and inflammatory statements,” Ayeh stated.

The Minority argues Ablakwa’s actions have led to Ghana’s inclusion on the US visa suspension list, damaging the country’s reputation and economic prospects.

They urge President Mahama to deploy a special envoy to Washington to negotiate the visa freeze’s reversal and address concerns over Ghana’s diplomatic credibility.
