Ignore the lies, vote for me – Bawumia tells delegates

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has cautioned party delegates to be wary of what he described as a deliberate campaign of insults and misinformation against him ahead of the party’s presidential primary.

Speaking to delegates at Manso Adubia in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday, January 20, Dr Bawumia said intelligence available to his team suggests that his opponents are preparing to launch personal attacks and spread falsehoods in the final weeks leading up to the contest.

According to him, with just two weeks to the primary, some rivals have resorted to insults and lies in an attempt to influence the minds of delegates. He urged party members not to be distracted by such tactics and instead focus on the bigger picture.

Dr Bawumia told the delegates to remain alert and wary, noting that they would hear many untrue claims about him as the campaign intensifies. He appealed to them to ignore the attacks and cast their votes based on merit and vision for the party and the country.

He stressed that the flagbearer race should not be reduced to an exchange of insults, arguing that such behaviour is a sign of a failing campaign. Dr Bawumia said his opponents are targeting him personally because they are unable to match his message and record.

“if you miss the ball, don’t miss the man,” he said, adding the insults are aimed at undermining him rather than addressing issues of substance.

Despite the attacks, Dr Bawumia said he remains unfazed and focused on winning the NPP primary. He expressed confidence in the support of delegates and reaffirmed his commitment to running a positive campaign centred on ideas and victory.

“A few days ago, we received intelligence that, with two weeks left to the primary, they are planning a strategy to insult me and spread lies about me. So be alert and wary. You will hear a lot of lies about me. They want to change your minds. Don’t mind them. Go and vote for me.

This is not an insulting competition but because they know their campaign is failing. That is why they are saying, ‘If you miss the ball, don’t miss the man.’ They want to insult me, but I won’t mind them. I am focused on victory.”
