DADDY SAGA: Akosua Serwaa to Appeal High Court’s Widowhood Ruling

Akosua Serwaa, the first wife of the late highlife legend Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has announced her decision to challenge the High Court’s ruling that dismissed her bid to be recognised as his only legal spouse.

The court rejected her claim that her marriage to the iconic musician was an ordinance marriage — a legal status which, under Ghanaian law, would have barred Daddy Lumba from entering any subsequent marriages.

Her lawyer, William Kusi, revealed that the legal team would file an appeal by the close of the day, insisting that the court erred in its judgement. According to him, key documents and admissions from the defendants strongly support Serwaa’s position.

Kusi also addressed public criticism surrounding his handling of the case, particularly claims that he failed to properly certify the marriage certificate through a German authority. He dismissed the allegations, explaining that the law provides multiple legitimate avenues for tendering such documents, and maintained that due legal processes were fully observed.

The case continues to draw widespread public attention, underscoring the legal complexities surrounding marriage validity and recognition in Ghana.
