NIA announces price increment for Ghana Card services

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced an upward adjustment in the prices of several Ghana Card-related services, a move that has triggered surprise among sections of the public.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, the Authority said the adjustment will affect services including first-time registration, personal information update, replacement service, nationality update, and non-citizen card registration.

The decision to review the prices, the authority claims, is aimed at sustaining service delivery.

“This adjustment is necessary to enable us to maintain and improve the quality of services we provide,” the Authority stated in the notice.

The NIA further appealed for public cooperation, expressing gratitude for “your understanding and continued support”.

However, the announcement has shocked many Ghanaians, particularly at a time when the economy is said to be stabilising and the cedi has recorded significant gains against the US dollar – a factor often cited in the past to justify increases in the cost of public services.

The Authority did not indicate the specific new prices or when the increment will take effect but encouraged the public to reach them through their official contact lines and platforms.
