Former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, has called on all presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to conduct themselves with honour and integrity in the upcoming flagbearer contest in order to protect the party’s traditions and the legacy of its founding fathers.

Speaking at the Peace Pact signing ceremony involving the five NPP presidential aspirants on Thursday, January 22, 2026, Prof. Oquaye stressed the importance of fairness, unity, and respect for the party’s core values throughout the electoral process.

“Please do something honourable for the New Patriotic Party and our tradition,” he urged.

He explained that the signing of the peace pact was necessary due to past experiences of unfair practices, partiality, and extreme partisanship within the party, which had negatively affected unity.

“In saying this, I am mindful that unfair practices, partiality, and base partisanship have happened in our party, and these have destroyed or shaken our unity,” he added.

The NPP presidential primary, scheduled for January 31, 2026, will be keenly contested by former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Ken Ohene Agyapong; former Minister of Food and Agriculture and MP for Abetifi, Dr Bryan Acheampong; former Vice-President and 2024 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia; former Minister of Education and MP for Bosomtwe, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum; and former General Secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.

The peace pact commits all five aspirants to uphold unity, accept the processes and outcome of the elections, and ensure that their supporters refrain from any actions that could cause unrest or undermine the unity of the party.
