Government has failed in education sector — Ntim Fordjour

Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has criticised the government over what he describes as its failure in managing the country’s education sector, particularly the ongoing issues with school placements.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, the former Deputy Education Minister said the current administration has worsened the challenges Ghanaians previously complained about under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

“Ghanaians have realised that what they claimed they didn’t want, this government is doing worse. They promised superior education, yet everything they’ve done in relation to education has failed,” Rev. Fordjour stated.

He described the reported payment of GH¢30,000 for school placement as “appalling” and argued that such practices undermine the free SHS policy.

“Paying 30,000 cedis is no longer free SHS. If this continues for at least two years, they will realize that the NPP was doing well with the country before we were voted out,” he said.

His comments follow revelations by Akrofuom MP Joseph Azumah that some individuals allegedly paid large sums to secure school placements for their wards, allegations that have prompted the Ministry of Education to launch an urgent investigation.

A statement signed by Deputy Minister Dr. Clement Apaak on Wednesday, October 22, said the Ministry was treating the matter with utmost seriousness and had referred it to National Security for thorough investigation.
