NPP bars National Security Operatives from Presidential Primary

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed that the Ghana Police Service be the sole security agency responsible for maintaining law and order during its Presidential Primary scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026.

In a statement signed by the party’s National Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye, the NPP said the decision was taken by the Presidential Elections Committee and would be enforced strictly across all voting centres, collation points and related activities.

The party stated unequivocally that it would not tolerate the presence or deployment of any non-uniformed, plain-clothed or otherwise unauthorised security personnel, including operatives from National Security, at any location connected to the conduct of the primary.

According to the statement, the party has received information suggesting that some elements within National Security are planning to deploy unauthorised operatives.

The NPP warned that any such move would be considered a deliberate and unlawful intrusion into its internal democratic processes, with the potential to disrupt or manipulate the election.

“The NPP will not hesitate to invoke all lawful remedies available to it to protect the integrity of this process,” the statement said, adding that any unauthorised presence would be challenged and resisted within the bounds of the law.

The party expressed confidence in the professionalism and capacity of the Ghana Police Service and called on the Police to enforce the directive without compromise.

It stressed that only duly authorised and clearly identifiable police officers should be deployed for the exercise, in line with assurances already given.

The NPP reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a credible, transparent and peaceful presidential primary, insisting that security arrangements must strictly follow the party’s directives to safeguard the integrity of the process.
