I congratulate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for his well deserved victory. I am ecstatic that, he won decisively. It makes our job as a Party easier going into the 2028 general elections campaign.
Speaking at his inauguration as flabearerer last night, Dr Bawumia was magnanimous in victory and called for unity in the party. He also called for moderate celebrations and urged “all patriots to reach out to one other”. Dr Bawumia paid tribute to his predecessors and thanked the former contestants for a spirited contest.
His speech was not only unifying, it represented hope, galvanized our energies and provided huge motivation for our great Party.
To the other former aspirants, you weren’t defeated. You were unsuccessful. You contributed in re-energizing our Party’s base across the country. Your nationwide campaigns brought some fulfillment to our base. I applaud you for your decision to contest and to stay in the contest gallantly.
The NPP won! We deserve a pat on the back for a successful and incident free elections.
Congratulations to us all.
Now, we must all work to the flagbearer and the leadership of the Party to rebuild, recalibrate and reposition our great Party in readiness for the 2028 elections campaign.
We ought to cooperate with each other in the larger interest of the Party.
Post primary internal and external activities of the party’s teaming supporters must be geared towards making our party effecient, fit for purpose and electorally victorious.
The unsuccessful aspirants, their assigns, campaign activists and supporters must fully and unconditionally support our new flagbearer. No excuses. No passing the buck.
Dr Bawumia has the ONEROUS duty to unite the party. He must remain magnanimous and genuinely reach to all and sundry to mobilise, inspire and rally us into action.
He should not listen or pay attention to destructionists, sycophants and attention seekers who may constantly remind him of what someone or group of people said negatively about him in the campaign leading to his election.
The flagbearer doesn’t need to be reminded about how pessimistic some people were about him. It will be completely unnecessary. What he needs now are ideas/proposals to raise the fallen party. Without a solid, united and strong party, he goes nowhere.
Political candidates, their aides or supporters of every internal contest of all political parties all over the world sometimes needlessly introduce some little amount of “friendly” attacks into their campaigns. It happens all the time. Sometimes, it unfortunately degenerates. We must work to minimize or curtail these unpleasant occurrences in our future internal elections.
As flagbearer of the party, Dr Bawumia needs sound counsel and guidance rooted in wisdom, respect, tolerance, strategy, experience, and “rich ideas” to unite and rebuild a strong, attractive and winnable Party. Anything contrary to this will be a recipe for disaster.
In the run up to the 2016 US election, J D Vance, was a bitter critic of Donald Trump. He publicly called him an “idiot” and said he was “reprehensible.” He compared him to Adolf Hitler in private conversations.
Between 2020 and 2024, Trump worked closely with Vance, appointed him his running mate for the 2024 election; and they won the election together; making Vance the second youngest Vice President of the world’s most powerful country after John Cabell Breckinridge who became Vice President aged 36 in 1857.
Vance did not only become Vice President, he is now one of Trump’s closest allies. He also defends Trump ardently without blinking. Marco Rubio once described Donald Trump as the “most vulgar” person to ever run for President of the United States. Today he serves as the Secretary of State appointed by Trump.
This goes to confirm the popular saying that, “in politics, there are no permanent friends nor permanent enemies, there are only permanent interests”. Our permanent interest and key objective as a Party right now is to win the 2028 elections and secure political power in 2029.
Dr Bawumia must tap on the experience, skills and expertise of those who did not support him in the primary. Trump did that with Vance, Rubio and many leading Republicans who previously rubbished his bid for president; and described his campaign as “hopeless”. Trump opened up, brought the anti Trump guys in, assigned them roles and the results in 2024 was the biggest in US presidential election history.
An atmosphere of belonging for every NPP person; particularly those who supported the other aspirants must be created so that we can quickly return to the main job of holding the feet of the President and the government to the fire. This will bring some renewal and reassurance to the fore. It will demonstrate our preparedness and determination to re-enter the political space with a renewed purpose, finding fresh meaning, direction, and motivation to align with our goals and values; leading to an energised base of the party and a clearer sense of direction. This how we can become relevant and regain the trust of the citizens.
I have 100% confidence in our new flagbearer to fundamentally redesign and rebuild our party to bring back our lost spirit and put an end to the apathy within our rank and file. This also requires us (members and supporters) of the party to overwhelmingly, undividedly and stupendously support the flagbearer and NPP 2028 project.
If we truly want to regain power, we must unhypocritically stand and work together. 2028 is there for the taking if we demonstrate unquestionable spirit of togetherness, love and hardwork.
Let’s win 2028 together!
