MAMPONG, ASHANTI REGION – Former education minister and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, says ministers who seek to obstruct development under his leadership would be told to “step aside.”
“I have seen poverty and I know what it feels like,” Adutwum said while addressing former party executives at Mampong in the Ashanti Region on Friday (26 September).
“My government will include people who share that sense of urgency and purpose — people committed to results, not excuses.”
War against poverty
The Bosomtwe MP said his campaign was built on ending what he called the “vicious cycle of poverty” and replacing it with a “virtuous cycle of prosperity,” bringing development closer to the people.
“Anyone serious about fighting poverty will not tolerate half-measures or complacency that preserves the status quo,” he added.
Calm style
Adutwum dismissed suggestions that his calm style meant he lacked decisiveness.
“If I were timid, I would never have founded one of the most successful educational institutions abroad,” he told the gathering.
“People call me calm and quiet — but that’s wrong. I’m not aggressive, yet I am decisive.”
Adutwum, who entered politics after establishing a successful school abroad, said he would enforce policies that hold every minister accountable and ensure the machinery of government works effectively.
