Akim Swedru MP Advocates for Law to Limit Govt Spending on Compensations

Kennedy Osei Nyarko, the Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, has called on the Ghanaian Parliament to pass a landmark law aimed at limiting the percentage of government revenue allocated to compensations.

According to Nyarko, this reform is crucial to address the escalating costs of the government’s wage bills and help free up resources to solve critical infrastructure challenges across the country.

In a recent Facebook post, Nyarko boldly stated, “It’s time for parliament to enact a law to put a cap on the percentage of Government’s revenues that should be spent on compensations. We need to be bold enough to pass this law, which will prevent any Government from spending more than 30% of its revenues on compensations.”

Nyarko argues that limiting compensation expenditure will free up critical funds needed for infrastructure development, social services, and other pressing needs.

“Political parties must find innovative ways to create private sector jobs for their supporters instead of depending on the public sector to absorb millions of party sympathizers,” Nyarko explained. “We cannot continue to create new offices, agencies, and authorities just to give jobs to our supporters while simultaneously complaining about the huge costs associated with government wage bills.”
