TAMALE – The 44 Minutes Bench, a pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth group based in Tamale in the Northern Region, has encouraged the delegates of the party to elect former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the party into the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections.
The group argues that the vision, leadership qualities, and track record of service of Dr Bawumia make him the ideal candidate to lead the party to victory in the next general elections.
Addressing Journalists on Thursday, September 18, 2025, the secretary of the group, Mr. Sulemana Iddrisu, said the former Vice President has consistently demonstrated a deep understanding of the needs and aspirations of Ghanaians, particularly the youth, and has articulated compelling narratives that resonate with the party’s ideals.

He observed that all nations across the globe are evolving around technology for development and job creation, intimating that the records of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia when it comes to the world of technology have gone beyond the shores of Ghana and Africa as a whole.
Mr. Iddrisu said the former vice president championed the implementation of the Ghana Card, digital payment systems, mobile money interoperability, and the digital address system, among others, under the Digital Ghana Agenda that brought enormous transformation to the country during the erstwhile Nana Akufo-Addo-led NPP government.
He noted that as the three-time running mate of the party and subsequently as Vice President to President Akufo-Addo for eight years, Dr Bawumia is the most experienced political figure in contemporary Ghanaian politics.
”As Vice Presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia contributed significantly to the party’s electoral success, particularly in the Northern Region, where he helped increase parliamentary seats from 3 to 16. His policy initiatives and ideas have been instrumental in shaping the party’s agenda,” he emphasised.
The Secretary therefore urged all NPP youth to rally behind Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s flagbearership bid to leverage on their collective energy and creativity to ensure victory in 2028.
”Together, we can build a brighter future for Ghana, harnessing the power of technology and innovation to drive economic growth and development.
”Let’s work together to make Ghana a beacon of digital innovation and prosperity in Africa by electing Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the flagbearer of our great party come January 31, 2026, and subsequently as President of the Republic of Ghana,” he appealed.
Meanwhile, the campaign for next year’s NPP presidential election is heating up with the various aspirants crisscrossing the country to canvass for support from the electorate.
Dr Bawumia, a few days ago, ended a three-day tour of the Ashanti region, the stronghold of the party, where he interacted with various stakeholders of the party.
