The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of National Chairman of the party.

In a statement dated February 4, 2026, Chairman Wontumi said the NPP is at a critical juncture that requires strong, unified, and principled leadership to rebuild and reposition the party for victory in the 2028 general elections.

He described himself as a grassroots-oriented leader who values every member of the party, from elders to youth, and expressed his readiness to make sacrifices to strengthen and unite the NPP.

Chairman Wontumi noted that his decision to run follows consultations with party elders and his Maker, emphasizing that his ambition is driven not by personal interest but by the need to restore confidence, empower the grassroots, and rebuild the party.

He expressed confidence in the party’s readiness for the task ahead, stating that the NPP is well-organized and prepared to reclaim power in 2028.
