The brief swearing in took place on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, in Parliament where she was made to take the Oath of Office as an MP and the Oath of Allegiance.
Before she was sworn in, the Minority Members of Parliament walked out refusing to partake in the swearing in.
This was after the Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh wanted to make a preliminary comment, but was not allowed.
Speaker Bagbin said he can only make any statement after Ewurabena Aubynn has been sworn in.
But Annoh-Dompreh objected and said if that’s the case, the Minority MPs cannot take part in the swearing in of Aubynn.
Alban Bagbin proceeded to hand over the Constitution and the Standing Orders of Parliament to the newly sworn MP.
He further congratulated the Ablekuma North MP and urged her “to be punctual, ever present in Parliament, learn from your colleagues and read everything.”
“I take this opportunity to congratulate the Honourable Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North constituency for her election. You are welcome to the House; you have to proceed to append your signature to the oaths you have sworn and hand them over to the Clerk,” he stated
Ewurabena Aubynn was declared winner of the Ablekuma North Constituency parliamentary election on Friday, July 11, 2025 after she secured a total of 34, 090 votes.
Her closest contender, Nana Akua Afriyie of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) polled 33,881 votes across all 281 polling stations. The total votes cast stood at 68,382, with 411 ballots rejected.
The declaration was made after a rerun of the election in 19 polling stations where over 6,000 eligible voters were expected to cast their votes.
Turnout was however low. Ewurabena Aubynn’s win ended the NPP’s 28-year stronghold setting the tone for the NDC to grab the opportunity to retain the seat.
