The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to name a successor to Otto Addo as the head coach of the Black Stars within the next three weeks, according to GFA Executive Council member, Frederick Acheampong. This announcement comes after a series of disappointing results in the March 2024 international window, including a 2-1 loss to Germany and a heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria, which ultimately led to Addo’s dismissal.
In an exclusive interview with Kessben FM, Acheampong confirmed the timeline for appointing the new coach, highlighting the urgency to get it right as Ghana prepares for upcoming international fixtures. “In the next three weeks, we should have our next coach in place because the next match is in May; however, we need to ensure that the right decision is made,” Acheampong explained.
Otto Addo, who had been reappointed in March 2024, faced mounting pressure after Ghana’s dismal results during their international friendly matches.
The team’s poor performance led to questions surrounding Addo’s ability to lead the Black Stars into the upcoming World Cup. The GFA’s decision to part ways with Addo comes after a challenging period of preparation, with the Black Stars struggling to find form in key fixtures.
