The General Assembly of the 67th Annual General Conference of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has elected a new National Executive Committee to lead the Association for the 2025–2027 term.

The elections, held at the close of the annual conference, produced a seven-member executive team, with Prof. Dr (Med) Ernest Yorke elected as President. Prof. Yorke, a senior clinician and longstanding member of the Association, takes over leadership at a time when Ghana’s health sector continues to grapple with workforce shortages, funding constraints, and rising demand for quality healthcare.

Dr (Med) Arko Akoto-Ampaw was elected Vice President, while Dr (Dent) Richard Selormey secured the position of General Secretary. The Deputy General Secretary role went to Dr (Med) Dan Anane-Frimpong.

Other elected officers include Dr (Med) Kwaku Appiagyei as Treasurer, Dr (Med) Charles Lwanga Bayel as the Male Executive Member, and Dr (Med) Louisa Nkrumah as the Female Executive Member.

Immediate Past President Dr (Med) Frank Serebour will continue to serve in an advisory capacity under the Association’s constitutional structure.

The new leadership is expected to steer the GMA through ongoing engagements with government over conditions of service, health sector reforms, and the welfare of medical professionals nationwide.

The General Assembly has also charged the newly elected executives to prioritise advocacy on health financing, professional development, and improved working environments for doctors across the country.
