The Ghana Education Service (GES) has condemned the alleged theft of food supplies meant for students of Awaso STEM Senior High School in the Western North Region, following reports of the arrest of two school staff.

In a press statement issued and signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at the Ghana Education Service on December 26, 2025, GES confirmed that the school’s matron, identified as Benedicta Nyamadi, and a cook, Rachel Kyeremateng, have been arrested in connection with the alleged theft of food items intended for students.

According to the Service, the incident, if proven, constitutes a serious breach of ethical standards, professional conduct and the core values of GES.

Management stressed that it does not condone any form of misconduct, abuse of office or actions that compromise the welfare, nutrition and wellbeing of students.

GES further disclosed that the matter is currently under investigation by the Ghana Police Service and assured the public of its full cooperation with all relevant state institutions to ensure that due process is followed.

The Service also assured parents, guardians and the general public that robust monitoring mechanisms are in place across schools.

It noted that where lapses are identified, appropriate sanctions will be applied in line with the GES Code of Conduct and the laws of Ghana.

GES has meanwhile urged all school staff nationwide to uphold integrity and demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility in the management of public resources.
