A member of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team, Nana Akomea, says there is no reason for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to replace the former Vice President as its flagbearer, insisting that his experience and leadership record make him the best candidate to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.

Speaking during the second day of Dr. Bawumia’s ‘Our Journey Together’ tour in the Bono East Region at Yeji in the Pru East constituency, the former Okaikoi South MP said Dr. Bawumia’s eight-year service as Vice President — and several occasions acting as President — remain unmatched by any of the four other aspirants in the flagbearership race.

The 2024 candidate for the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is seeking re-election as the Flagbearer to lead the party into the 2028 presidential elections.

Polls conducted by Global InfoAnalytics on who is likely to lead the party into the 2028 elections pitch the former Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as the likely winner of the party’s impending presidential primaries which comes off on the 31st of January, 2026.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his campaign team began a nationwide to engage with NPP delegates. The agenda is to further drum home the reasons Dr. Bawumia remains the best bet to return the NPP to political power in 2028.

Despite objections from other camps vying for the Flagbearership position, Dr. Bawumia’s Campaign strongly believes there is a groundswell of delegates that are of the view that voting for any other candidate apart from Dr. Bawumia spells doom for the party’s electoral fortunes in the 2028 elections.

According to Mr. Akomeah, Dr. Bawumia’s selfless service for the party coupled with his exemplary leadership potential makes him a standout amongst the five candidates vying for the flagbearership position of the NPP.
