ACCRA – Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Light Foundation, Sheikh Abubakar Ali Napari, has urged the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to exercise restraint in pressing government to declare a state of emergency over the worsening illegal mining menace.
Speaking in an interview with Metro News, Sheikh Napari stressed that President John Mahama has not ruled out decisive interventions but is committed to adopting strategic and sustainable approaches to address the crisis.
“This is a national call, and therefore all Ghanaians should rally behind the president to eradicate this menace completely,” he said.
The Light Foundation CEO expressed grave concern over the destruction of water bodies by illegal mining activities, warning that the infiltration of dangerous chemicals into rivers poses a serious threat to food security and public health.
He appealed to religious leaders, civil society, and all well-meaning Ghanaians to join the fight against illegal mining, emphasizing that collective effort is key to safeguarding the nation’s future.
Sheikh Napari concluded with a call for unity, noting that the issue transcends politics and must be treated as a shared responsibility in building a better Ghana.
