A major division has erupted within the camp of former Member of Parliament Irene Naa Torshie Addo following her reported decision to leave Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s team and align with another political camp.
In a statement signed by Collins Ntim, spokesperson for Team Torshie, the group appeared to distance itself from the former MP, describing her move as a “deeply personal decision driven by ambition.”
The statement accused her of abandoning the party’s collective interest after being overlooked for the running-mate position.
“It is now clear that her move is a reaction to not being selected as Dr Bawumia’s running mate. She has chosen to disregard party loyalty and the collective goal for a personal vice-presidential pursuit that we all know is not a viable mission,” the statement said.
The public disavowal has sparked open divisions among Naa Torshie’s aides and loyalists, some of whom insist they were not consulted before the move.
Party insiders say the fallout highlights growing tensions among her supporters over strategy and political alignment ahead of the December polls.
Naa Torshie, a former Deputy Minister and past Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund, has not yet commented on the statement or the internal rift.
