The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has assured customers and stakeholders that its metering and billing systems meet strict national and international standards, following recent concerns raised by some prepaid customers.

Providing further details about an earlier press release, Electricity Company of Ghana General Manager for External Communications, Dr Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, confirmed that all electricity meters deployed across the country undergo rigorous testing and calibration processes before installation.

He explained on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, that ECG’s quality assurance regime conforms to approved national and international standards, stressing that the company operates a state-of-the-art metering laboratory comparable to leading facilities worldwide.

Dr Ayiku further disclosed that every meter is independently tested and certified by the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) prior to installation to ensure compliance with established technical requirements.

While maintaining confidence in the accuracy and reliability of ECG’s meters, he acknowledged that some customers may have legitimate concerns regarding billing. He said the company has begun investigating all reported cases in line with a directive from the Minister for Energy and Green Transition.

As part of efforts to enhance transparency and public confidence, ECG has formally requested the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) to independently and randomly select meters for testing both in the laboratory and in the field. The outcome of the independent assessment, he noted, will form part of a report to be submitted to the Minister.

ECG reiterated its commitment to accountable and responsive service delivery and appealed to customers to continue cooperating with the company as investigations proceed.
