Mahama has not delivered key promises after one year – Kwadwo Baah Agyemang rates Govt 48%

Former Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, has rated President John Dramani Mahama’s administration 48% after one year in office.

Speaking in an interview monitored by HappyGhana.com, Mr. Agyemang said that although President Mahama has been in power for a year, he has personally not seen any significant improvement in the economy, contrary to what the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been presenting to Ghanaians.

He recalled that President Mahama, during the 2024 election campaign, promised to implement a 24-hour economy involving three work shifts across workplaces.

However, Mr. Agyemang questioned whether that policy has been rolled out since the administration assumed office, asking rhetorically if the 24-hour economy is currently in operation.

The former MP also pointed out that President Mahama pledged to undertake major initiatives within his first 100 days in office, as well as to form a lean government.

According to him, these promises have not been fulfilled and have remained largely campaign rhetoric.

Mr. Agyemang cited examples to support his claims, noting that when he headed the Digital Centre, there was no deputy position, but under the current administration, deputy chief executive roles have been created.

He further argued that although President Mahama promised not to appoint deputy regional ministers, individuals who served as regional organisers have now been appointed as regional coordinators at the Regional Coordinating Councils, effectively acting as deputy regional ministers.

He emphasized that the current administration is merely a “repackaging” of previous governance, which he believes the media has failed to critically scrutinise.

Mr. Agyemang said that, based on his assessment so far, the government has not delivered anything significantly better, adding that in fairness, he would rate President Mahama’s performance at 48 percent after one year in office.
