Alhaji Ali Suraj has declared his intention to contest the position of National Nasara Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), saying the party’s Zongo and Muslim outreach wing needed renewed leadership ahead of the 2028 elections.
In a statement addressed to party members, Suraj said his decision followed consultations with supporters and stakeholders within the NPP after the party’s recent primaries that elected Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia as flagbearer.
Suraj, a former Nasara coordinator in the United States, said he was encouraged by what he described as strong grassroots backing and his past work on party committees.
He pledged to strengthen the Nasara structure nationwide, with a focus on sustained engagement in Zongo and settler communities, welfare-driven mobilisation, and building trust between the party and Muslim communities.
Among his proposals are the establishment of a national Nasara administration, year-round community engagement, and better resourcing of the Nasara wing to support electoral mobilisation.
The NPP’s Nasara wing plays a key role in outreach to Muslim communities, which have become an increasingly important voting bloc as parties position themselves for the next general election.
