The Member of Parliament for Assin South and Ranking Member on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Security, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, has strongly criticised what he describes as attempts by two MPs to pressure the government into recruiting unqualified party loyalists into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Ntim Fordjour accused Samuel Nartey George, MP for Ningo-Prampram, and Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, MP for South Dayi, of pursuing a “misconceived and misguided populist agenda” by advocating for the inclusion of “overage NDC foot soldiers” in the ongoing military recruitment exercise.

“Hon. Sam George and Hon. Dafeamekpor’s call for unqualified overage NDC foot soldiers into military is a misconceived and misguided populist agenda,” he wrote.

“We will resist every attempt by NDC to load their overage foot soldiers into Ghana Armed Forces. Ghana Armed Forces is not a dumping ground for overage NDC foot soldiers.”

Ntim Fordjour argued that the alleged interference undermines the integrity and professionalism of the military recruitment process currently being undertaken by the Ghana Armed Forces.

He called on the NDC’s leadership, cabinet members, and parliamentary caucus to desist from what he described as “undue interference” in the recruitment process, stressing that merit and professionalism should guide the selection of candidates.

“NDC Cabinet Ministers and Parliamentary Leadership must be made to know that it is extremely backward and dangerous to force unqualified people into the military as a reward for party patronage,” he added.

“Stop the undue interference in the credible and professional recruitment process underway by the Ghana Armed Forces.”
