The Minority in Parliament says it expects the Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Matthew Nyindam, to resume his duties in the House following the Supreme Court’s ruling on the matter.
Speaking on behalf of the Minority, the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, said Mr Nyindam remains a duly elected and legitimate MP and is therefore entitled to continue functioning as such until the case is finally determined, in accordance with the Supreme Court’s decision.
He criticised Parliament, as well as the Speaker and the Clerk to Parliament, for what he described as a hasty decision to formally communicate with the Electoral Commission. According to him, that action was premature and did not reflect the true import of the Supreme Court’s ruling.
The Minority maintains that any steps suggesting a re-run of the election before the final determination of the case undermine the authority of the court and could set a troubling precedent for parliamentary and electoral processes.
