Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the newly elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on party members to unite and work together as the party begins preparations for the 2028 general elections.
Addressing supporters after his victory in the party’s presidential primary, Dr. Bawumia stressed that unity will be key to the NPP’s success going forward.
Speaking shortly after being officially declared winner of the primaries held on Saturday, January 31, Dr. Bawumia said the internal contest should mark the end of divisions within the party.
He urged all members, including supporters of other aspirants, to put aside differences and rally behind a shared vision for the future.
“Together we stand, divided we fall,” Dr. Bawumia told party supporters, emphasising the need for cooperation and collective effort. He noted that only a united party could effectively present a strong alternative to the Ghanaian electorate in the next general elections.
Dr. Bawumia secured a decisive victory in the primaries, polling 110,643 votes, representing 56.48 per cent of the total valid votes cast. His closest contender, Kennedy Agyapong, garnered 46,554 votes (23.76%), while Dr. Bryan Acheampong placed third with 36,303 votes (18.53%).
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong followed with 1,999 votes (1.02%) and 402 votes (0.21%), respectively. In total, more than 190,000 delegates participated in the exercise, voting at 333 polling centres across all 275 constituencies nationwide.
