ACCRA – The National Sports Authority (NSA) has directed an immediate suspension of all boxing activities in Ghana following the tragic death of boxer Ernest Akushey, popularly known as Bahubali.

Announcing the decision on Wednesday, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, Director-General of the NSA, stated that the suspension will remain in force until a full investigation into the incident is concluded.

“All boxing activities are hence suspended pending investigation into the death of boxer Ernest Akushey, aka Bahubali,” he said.

The NSA directive is aimed at allowing medical and regulatory authorities to conduct a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding Bahubali’s death. The outcome of the investigation is expected to inform stronger safety protocols and medical standards in Ghana’s boxing industry.

The Authority has also urged all stakeholders—promoters, managers, trainers, and the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA)—to fully cooperate with investigators to ensure transparency and accountability.

This suspension marks a critical pause for Ghana boxing, as the nation grapples with calls for reforms to protect the health and lives of its athletes.
