Using the Pulpit to Perpetuate Religious Fraud and Coup d’État

Yesterday, I came across a video of one of our so-called prophets in Ghana, Prophet Kofi Oduro, shouting at the top of his voice, desecrating, maligning, castigating, and abusing a fellow man of God in the name of unfulfilled prophecies in the 2024 elections.

The sad part is not just the shouting and loud voice, but the unprintable words used to describe his fellow man of God immediately after the 2024 general elections. His disrespectful attitude was beyond ordinary imagination.

Ironically, his sense of entitlement to insult leaders whom he sees as opposed to his political party did not only allow him to go on his insulting spree but also led him to hypocritically call on the church to protect a fellow failed man of God, Prophet El-Bernard, because, according to him, he is not a “demigod” but one of their own.

It is instructive to comprehend that the use of the pulpit in triggering and cultivating mutiny and brainwashing in the name of religiosity in our society needs checking. I am of the opinion that political parties seem oblivious to the dangers associated with these self-styled prophecies.

Sadly, our society has accepted that the so-called self-styled prophets in the country are using the name of Christianity to perpetuate a political coup d’état, thereby not allowing people to appraise issues on their substance, and misusing God’s name to mislead unsuspecting followers into a misplaced sense of hero-worship through falsehood and bigotry in preaching.

Listening to Prophet Kofi Oduro, though not something I ordinarily do, gives goosebumps, and it is about time people interrogate his absurdity in the name of Christendom, as such rhetoric in the name of preaching is deeply unsettling. I am of the conviction that the time has come for our society, especially believers, to question and critically assess teachings that promote division, hostility, and political extremism under the banner of Christianity.

Faith should guide conscience, not be used as a tool for control.
