A leading member of the Boakye Agyarko has intensified consultations within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as part of efforts to secure support for his bid to become the party’s next National Chairman.

Mr. Agyarko disclosed that he has formally informed Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of his intention to contest the position. The engagement forms part of a broader consultation with senior figures in the party aimed at building consensus ahead of the internal contest.

According to Mr. Agyarko, the move reflects his belief that the future of the party must be anchored on respect for its founding leaders and long-standing traditions.

As part of the consultations, he also held discussions with members of the party’s National Council of Elders, led by Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, where he outlined his vision for strengthening the party’s internal structures.

The engagements followed an earlier meeting with former President John Agyekum Kufuor, one of the most respected figures within the NPP tradition.

Mr. Agyarko described his consultations with the party’s senior statesmen as part of a deliberate effort to position himself as a unifying figure capable of bridging the party’s history with its future direction.

He emphasized that if given the mandate as National Chairman, his immediate focus would be to reinforce the party’s organisational base and strengthen internal cohesion to support the NPP’s presidential candidate, Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Mr. Agyarko also expressed gratitude to the party’s elders for their guidance and encouragement during the consultations.

He said the collective effort of party members and leaders would be crucial in restoring the NPP’s strength and unity as it prepares for future political contests.

With renewed calls for unity and organisational rebuilding, the former Energy Minister says he remains confident that the NPP can regain its full strength and momentum in the years ahead.
