Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged the party’s Minority Caucus in Parliament to begin projecting itself as a government-in-waiting ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Addressing Minority Members of Parliament during a pre-Parliament meeting ahead of the resumption of the Second Meeting of the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament in Accra on Wednesday, May 20, Dr. Bawumia said the period of post-election reflection following the NPP’s 2024 defeat was over.
According to him, the focus must now shift towards rebuilding public confidence and presenting the NPP as a credible alternative government.
“We have finished the period of introspection. We must now position ourselves credibly as a party preparing to govern from January 7, 2029,” he stated.
Dr. Bawumia stressed that the conduct of NPP MPs both in Parliament and within their constituencies would shape public perception about the party’s readiness to return to power.
He noted that every statement, engagement and parliamentary action by the Minority should convince Ghanaians that the NPP remains capable of leading the country effectively.
The former Vice President also cautioned against complacency and internal division, insisting that unity within the caucus would be crucial to the party’s rebuilding efforts.
