Asante Akim North MP Urges President Mahama to Build Tomato Processing Factory

The Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, also known as OK Frimpong, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to establish a tomato processing factory in his constituency to support local farmers. The MP highlighted the challenges faced by tomato farmers in Agogo, who struggle to sell their produce despite abundant harvests.

In a video shared widely online, Frimpong explained that the lack of market access is a significant issue for farmers. Although Agriculture Minister Eric Opoku and his deputy, John Dumelo, recently visited the area and provided 1,000 bags of fertilizer to boost farming, the problem of finding buyers persists. Currently, a bag of tomatoes sells for GH₵500, but farmers still face difficulties attracting customers.

Frimpong emphasized that a tomato processing factory would create a steady market for local produce, generate jobs, and help reduce unemployment in Asante Akim North. He also invited buyers nationwide to visit Agogo for high-quality, fresh tomatoes, which he described as among the best in Ghana.

The MP made a heartfelt plea to President Mahama, urging him to “have mercy” on the people of Asante Akim North by supporting the establishment of a factory to improve the livelihoods of tomato farmers.
