ACCRA — Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has officially scheduled the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic to commence on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, signaling a pivotal moment for legislative action amid Ghana’s ongoing economic and governance challenges. The announcement, made during a parliamentary session on Tuesday, aims to reconvene lawmakers to tackle pressing issues, though it has already sparked mixed reactions over its timing and potential impact.

Bagbin, leveraging his authority under Article 103 of the 1992 Constitution, set the date following consultations with parliamentary leadership, citing the need to address a backlog of bills and oversight duties. The session will mark the first major gathering since the summer recess, with an agenda likely to include economic recovery measures under President John Dramani Mahama’s “Reset Ghana” agenda, judicial reforms following Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie’s Chief Justice nomination, and labor disputes like the imminent railway workers’ strike.
