Flagbearer race: Bawumia unfazed by attacks; he’s committed to NPP’s success – Ama Daaku

Former vice president Mahamudu Bawumia remains unfazed by personal attacks and continues to focus on unity and continuity within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), according to a member of his campaign team, Ellen Ama Daaku.

Speaking on The Forum on Asaase Radio on Saturday (18 October), Daaku said Bawumia’s leadership style emphasizes collaboration among all presidential aspirants as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.

“I don’t think Dr Bawumia is too bothered about attacks. You may attack him, he might not even hear, but the people who follow and love him would also hear and respond. That is where he is always on our case—telling us to ignore and think about the NPP,” she said.

Daaku highlighted that Bawumia’s approach prioritizes party cohesion and continuity. She said he seeks delegates’ support to continue his leadership but remains committed to working with whichever candidate emerges as the flagbearer.

“When he wins, he would need all the other aspirants to work with him. But that doesn’t mean if he doesn’t win, he will pack up and leave. He would join whoever wins and encourage all of us to rally behind them,” she added.

On the upcoming NPP flagbearer ballot, Daaku noted that delegates are unlikely to be influenced by Bawumia’s position on the ballot paper.

“The delegates are more concerned about their welfare, whether in government or opposition, than where a candidate is placed on the ballot,” she said.
