The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has confiscated 98 unregistered herbal medicines during a market surveillance exercise conducted in parts of Accra between November 22 and 24, 2025.

The operation, which covered Accra, Awoshie and Boundary Road, forms part of the Authority’s ongoing efforts to rid the market of unsafe and unapproved health products.

Among the seized items were popular brands such as Amenazel Herbal Tonic, Amenazel Herbal Bitters and Poget Herbal Mixture.

In a statement posted on its official Facebook pages on Monday, November 24, the FDA said the confiscated products are being prepared for safe disposal to protect public health.

The Authority issued a strong warning to individuals and businesses selling unregistered medicines, stressing that its enforcement activities will remain relentless.

“To those selling unregistered products, we will not relent in our commitment to ensuring public health and safety, so sooner than you think we will get to you,” the FDA cautioned.

FDA continues to urge the public to buy only products that meet regulatory standards and are duly registered to avoid health risks associated with unapproved herbal and medicinal preparations.
