The Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Mathew Nyindam, has expressed confidence in his position, stating he is not afraid of a rerun of the parliamentary election.

This comes after the Tamale High Court ordered a fresh election, citing irregularities in 41 polling stations.

The court ruled that the Electoral Commission must conduct a new election within 30 days, citing non-compliance with electoral regulations that affected the vote’s integrity.

Nyindam’s lawyers have filed notices of appeal and stay of execution, challenging the court’s decision.

Speaking to the media, Nyindam asserted, “I am still the MP for Kpandai. I won by a decisive majority.”

His team argues that the petition leading to the rerun was “frivolous” and that the alleged irregularities wouldn’t have changed the outcome.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen Show, the legislator said he was not entirely surprised about he the outcome of the court’s ruling. He shares there were rumours about a week ago of a possible rerun of the polls.

“About a week ago, rumours heightened in the corridors of the NDC that there was going to be a rerun of the parliamentary elections. Some of us wondered what might have occasioned for such rumours to be spread”, Hon. Nyindam quipped when responding to questions by the host of Ekosiisen, Osei Bonsu (Esq.).

Mr. Nyindam revealed that his counsels after the ruling served the court with stay of execution application of the court’s ruling and also applied for an appeal of the courts ruling.
