TIGHT RACE LOOMS IN NPP BELGIUM BRANCH ELECTIONS AS JULY 25 APPROACHES

The Belgium Branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to hold its much-anticipated Branch Elections on July 25, 2026, with political activities intensifying ahead of the polls.

All aspiring candidates were required to submit their nomination forms by the close of Friday, July 17, 2026. Since then, campaigns have gathered significant momentum, largely driven by online engagements and strategic visitations to various chapters across Belgium.

Delegates from Antwerp, Gent, and Leuven are expected to cast their votes in what is shaping up to be a highly competitive contest. While several positions are up for grabs, attention has largely focused on the Chairmanship and Secretary roles, where the races are particularly tight.

At the Chairmanship level, the incumbent Chairman, Mr. Solomon Amankwah Agyin, popularly known as “King Solomon,” is seeking a second term but faces stiff competition from his current Vice-Chair, Nana Akosua Nyamekye.
Similarly, the Secretary position has emerged as a key battleground.

The incumbent Secretary, Mr. Seth D. Oduro, widely known as “Ranking Member,” is vying for a third term. He is being strongly challenged by Mr. Andrews Kwame Perprem, the current Antwerp Chapter Secretary.

Both contests are described by observers as fiercely competitive, reflecting growing interest among members in shaping the future direction of the branch.

Interviews conducted with several delegates suggest a strong appetite for change, particularly in the Secretary race. Mr. Perprem, popularly known as “Kwame,” is running on a “servant leadership” platform anchored on a 10-point agenda aimed at transforming the branch.
Many delegates believe his message is resonating, with some predicting a decisive victory in his favour.

The call for new leadership appears to be a major factor influencing voter sentiment.
Mr. Perprem brings to the race extensive experience, having served as Secretary of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) Belgium for over five years and as Antwerp Chapter Secretary for more than two years.

His background also includes roles as a former Secretary of the Dangbe Students Union at the University for Development Studies, a lecturer, development consultant, and political analyst.

Supporters point to his track record, including his role in spearheading the formation of United Belgium for Bawumia (UBB), as well as his contributions to community development initiatives in both Belgium and Ghana through his non-governmental organisation.

As the election date draws closer, all eyes remain on the Belgium Branch, where the outcome is expected to significantly influence the party’s diaspora engagement and organisational strength ahead of future political activities.

The results on July 25 will ultimately determine whether continuity or change will define the next chapter of the NPP Belgium Branch.
