GES Urges Parents to Accept School Placements and Prepare for SHS Reopening

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has called on parents to accept the placements of their children as assigned through the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) and begin preparing them for the upcoming school year.

The SHS reopening is scheduled for 18–20 October 2025, and Dr. Munawaru Issahaque, Deputy Director-General for Quality and Access at GES, emphasized the importanc of adjusting expectations and focusing on the realities of the placement process.

Speaking in an interview with Channel One TV, Dr. Issahaque reassured parents that over 95% of candidates had already been successfully placed, but some are still seeking changes in their assigned schools.

While the desire for a preferred placement is understandable, the limited availability of spaces makes it unlikely that all requests can be accommodated.“If by today, tomorrow or the next day you realise that the change you want is not coming, just understand that your child’s place is where they’ve been placed,” Dr. Issahaque advised.

“You need to prepare your child and send them to school on Sunday to join their peers.”Dr. Issahaque also warned parents about the dangers of falling victim to unscrupulous individuals promising to alter placement outcomes for a fee.

The GES official cautioned against paying anyone who claims they can manipulate the system, stressing that such actions are not only illegal but also harmful to the integrity of the placement process.“If you know someone who has taken money under such pretenses, do not hesitate to report them.

We are committed to addressing these matters,” he said.GES assures that all students placed through the system will be able to report to school between 18–20 October, so parents should ensure they are ready for the start of the academic year.
