Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged all New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirants to prioritise issue-based campaigning and maintain a tone of mutual respect as the party prepares for its upcoming presidential primaries.

Speaking at a breakfast meeting held at his private residence in Nima, Accra, on Tuesday, 21 October 2025, the former President stressed the importance of a clean and respectful contest.

He hosted the five aspirants vying for the NPP’s presidential nomination, along with key party leaders, in an effort to promote unity and party cohesion ahead of the January 31, 2026, primaries.

The meeting was aimed at encouraging a spirit of camaraderie among the aspirants while reinforcing the need for a unified NPP as the party looks toward recapturing power in the 2028 general elections.

Akufo-Addo thanked the aspirants for attending and expressed appreciation for their commitment to the NPP’s future. He emphasised that all the aspirants had served the party and the nation with distinction, and he urged them to campaign based on ideas, not personal attacks.

He further stated that his top priority was ensuring party unity and the credibility of the primaries.

In response, the five presidential aspirants gave personal assurances that their campaigns and supporters would conduct themselves with integrity and refrain from divisive tactics. They also pledged to support the eventual flagbearer after the primaries to preserve party unity.

Also present at the meeting were Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, Chairman of the NPP Council of Elders; Acting National Chairman Danquah Smith Buttey; General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong; Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin; and former Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare.

The aspirants in attendance were Ken Ohene Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.

The former President concluded the meeting by encouraging party leadership to ensure a transparent and credible electoral process that will bring all factions together after the contest. The statement was issued by Fatimatu Abubakar, spokesperson to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
