Veteran politician Stephen Asamoah Boateng has formally declared his intention to run for the position of National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), joining a growing list of contenders for the top party post.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Asamoah Boateng pledged to foster a “disciplined and structured NPP” and promised to work collaboratively with party members to strengthen the organization.

“My fellow patriots, the time has come for me to officially declare my intentions to contest the National Chairman position for the NPP.

A new era of disciplined and structured NPP is here. God bless us all,” he wrote.

He joins other declared aspirants, including former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, former party General Secretary John Boadu, and Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Chairman Wontumi, in the race to lead the party.

The position of National Chairman is a critical role within the NPP, responsible for overseeing party administration, coordination of grassroots structures, and preparation for elections at both national and local levels.

Party officials have yet to announce the schedule for the internal election, but the contest is expected to attract significant attention given the upcoming 2026 presidential primary and ongoing efforts to consolidate party unity.
