Also, the opposition NDC will find a way to stretch out these allegations over four years, filling the ears of the electorates with “NPP is corrupt for four years.”
As the party stands at this critical juncture, the outcome of the chairmanship race will likely set the tone for the NPP’s broader eQorts to reestablish its credibility. Internal reform, greater transparency, and a renewed commitment to ethical governance are now prerequisites if the party hopes to reconnect with disillusioned supporters and regain its moral footing.
The leadership’s willingness to confront these challenges head-on will determine whether the NPP can truly reinvent itself or remain mired in the controversies that have defined recent years.
Enter Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko
Boakye Agyarko’s name evokes both experience and discipline. Born in Kumasi in 1956, educated at Mfantsipim and the University of Ghana, and later trained in international banking in the United States, Agyarko represents the NPP’s technocratic tradition at its best— competence grounded in both Ghanaian experience and global exposure.
His career spans private-sector banking at the Bank of New York, campaign management for the NPP in 2012, and public service as Minister for Energy from 2017 to 2018. Despite his departure from government, his reputation for professionalism, integrity, and forthrightness has endured.
Among party faithful and observers, Agyarko is seen as the archetype of a firm yet fair reformer — principled, not populist; disciplined, not detached.
Why his Chairmanship bid matters
Agyarko’s ambition to lead the NPP as national chairman arrives at a moment of deep institutional exhaustion. His candidacy speaks to three critical needs within the party: renewal, unity, and credibility.
