Member of Parliament for Bantama, Hon. Francis Asenso Boakye, has praised all New Patriotic Party (NPP) aspirants vying for the flagbearer position, stating that each contender has worked hard and deserves the opportunity to lead the party. He emphasized that whoever emerges victorious will serve the NPP well.
Speaking on the Wontumi Morning Show with Oheneba Nana Asiedu, Hon. Asenso Boakye revealed that among the five aspirants, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia stands out as the candidate most capable of securing victory for the NPP in the 2028 general election. He explained that his confidence in Dr. Bawumia is strengthened by discussions with senior party figures, including former President John Agyekum Kufuor and Dr. Hackman Owusu-Agyemang.
Hon. Asenso further noted that many of Dr. Bawumia’s key messages during the 2024 election campaign have since manifested, particularly his strong advocacy for digitalization, which he said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is now also embracing.
Commenting on voting patterns in Ghana, he explained that many citizens make electoral decisions based on personal engagements rather than media communication, especially in communities with limited access to radio and social media. According to him, candidates who visit communities in person often win stronger support.
He added that it has historically been difficult for first-time presidential candidates to win elections in Ghana, except in cases where incumbents run again, a pattern observed under former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings and John Dramani Mahama.
