Dr. Bawumia Calls on NPP Delegates to Support His Presidential Bid

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a key contender in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming presidential primaries, has made a compelling appeal to delegates, urging them to place their trust in his leadership.

Speaking to delegates and supporters in the Asawase Constituency, part of his ongoing campaign tour in the Ashanti Region, Bawumia emphasized the importance of electing a leader with experience, competence, and a proven track record of governance, particularly in the areas of economic management.

In his address, Dr. Bawumia explained that the delegates’ decision would not only shape the future of the NPP but also impact the direction of the country.

He stressed the need for the party to field a candidate with both practical experience and demonstrable results in key sectors critical to national development. As Ghana approaches the 2026 elections, Bawumia is positioning himself as the candidate who can bring about the necessary change for the country’s growth and prosperity.

The NPP is set to hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, and Dr. Bawumia’s campaign aims to convince delegates that his leadership can reunite the party and restore its dominance. He pointed out that the NPP’s recent electoral defeat stemmed from internal challenges, such as what he described as the “one-man-chop syndrome,” a culture of exclusion and poor governance. Under his leadership, Dr. Bawumia promised to bring more inclusivity and equity to the party’s structure.

As part of his vision for the future of the party, Bawumia unveiled a series of plans designed to strengthen the NPP at all levels. One of the key initiatives is the introduction of a Database Welfare System (DBWS), which will enable the party to streamline its communication and engagement with members. This system will make it easier to access critical information, ensuring that every party member has a voice and is represented in the party’s decision-making process.

Dr. Bawumia also pledged to allocate 3,000 of the 7,000 governance appointments in the NPP administration to constituencies. This will be aimed at promoting greater equity and ensuring that appointments are made based on merit rather than political loyalty alone. Additionally, he proposed the introduction of a Constituency-Based Budget System, which would allow for more tailored, responsive solutions to challenges faced by individual constituencies, ensuring that local issues are addressed swiftly and effectively.

During his campaign tour, Dr. Bawumia took a moment to facilitate reconciliation among party members who had previously been at odds. The resolution of differences between Manaf Ibrahim, Alidu Seidu, and Ali Suraj was seen as a powerful symbol of Dr. Bawumia’s leadership style, one that prioritizes unity and collaboration. His efforts in bringing party members together reflect his commitment to healing divisions within the NPP and building a cohesive team ready to take on the 2026 elections.

Accompanied by prominent party figures such as former Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and Kofi Jumah, among others, Bawumia’s campaign tour was a clear demonstration of the support he has within the party.
