As the Black Stars prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, captain Jordan Ayew has firmly stated that the current squad is well-equipped to lead Ghana into the tournament, rejecting any calls for significant changes or additions.
In a recent interview with Asempa FM, Ayew expressed his belief that the players who helped Ghana secure qualification for the global event have earned the right to represent the nation on football’s biggest stage. Despite Ghana’s unfortunate failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Ayew is confident that the team’s spirit and cohesion are continuing to improve under head coach Otto Addo.
“I think the players who played during the qualifiers have done extremely well,” Ayew commented. “I don’t think we need any additions. I believe we have a good team, and as time goes on, we are improving.”
Ayew, who contributed 14 goal involvements during the qualification campaign, is adamant that the “core” of the team is already set and functioning well together. He believes that disrupting this chemistry by bringing in new players at this stage would be a mistake.
“The unity is getting better and everything is improving,” he added. “I don’t think this is the right time to make changes.”
