Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has dismissed claims that his support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary is motivated by personal ambition.
In an interview with Kumasi-based Pure FM, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu addressed the rumors suggesting that he was endorsing Dr. Bawumia with the hope of securing a future political position, such as the running mate slot or even retaining his position as Speaker of Parliament, should the NPP win the upcoming general elections.
“These allegations are not only false but also misleading,” the former Suame MP said. He further emphasized that his commitment to the party and country has always been guided by integrity, and that his decision to back Dr. Bawumia is based on his belief that the former Vice President possesses the leadership qualities, experience, and vision to steer the NPP to a successful victory in 2028.
“I have always prioritized the long-term success of the NPP and the development of this nation,” Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu continued. “My actions have been motivated by the conviction that Bawumia can lead the party to greater heights.”
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu also took the opportunity to urge party members and supporters to focus on unity and the broader goal of sustaining the NPP’s development agenda. He warned against divisive rhetoric that could undermine the party’s cohesion as it prepares for the crucial upcoming elections.
