The New Patriotic Party (NPP) USA Chicago Chapter has issued a heartfelt call for unity, discipline, and mutual respect among party members and aspirants as the race for the party’s next flagbearer intensifies ahead of the January 31, 2026, election.
In a press statement titled “One Party, One Destiny,” the Chapter urged all members of the NPP, both in Ghana and across the diaspora, to uphold the party’s longstanding tradition of peaceful internal democracy and focus on the shared mission of national development.
Commitment to Democratic Values
The statement highlighted the NPP’s enduring legacy as a party rooted in democratic ideals, tracing its heritage to the Danquah-Busia-Dombo political tradition. It emphasized that since its re-establishment in 1992, the NPP has consistently demonstrated transparency and inclusiveness in its internal elections, setting a benchmark for political participation in Ghana.
“Healthy competition must not lead to division,” the Chapter stressed, adding that “the NPP’s true strength lies in its democratic tradition, discipline, and shared vision for Ghana’s progress.”
Celebrating a Tradition of Leadership Renewal
Reflecting on the party’s history, the statement noted that the NPP has always balanced leadership renewal with unity. From Prof. Albert Adu Boahen’s pioneering candidacy in 1992 to John Agyekum Kufuor’s unifying victories in 2000 and 2004, and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s perseverance leading to his eventual presidency in 2016, the party has maintained a proud record of democratic transitions.
The 2026 Flagbearer Race
The Chapter acknowledged the current lineup of aspirants vying to lead the party into the 2028 general elections, including:
- Hon. Kennedy Agyapong
- Dr. Bryan Acheampong
- H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
- Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum
- Hon. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong
“These patriots all bring dedication, experience, and a shared love for the New Patriotic Party and Ghana,” the statement affirmed.
Endorsing Calls for Peace and Discipline
The Chapter also commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his recent engagement with all aspirants, where he emphasized unity, calm, and a shared commitment to the party’s long-term mission. The statement further acknowledged the efforts of party elders and supporters who have echoed this message of peace and cohesion.
“The path forward must be guided by togetherness,” the statement said. “Internal contests show the strength of our political tradition, but they must be guided by respect.”
One Party, One Destiny
As the NPP prepares for its crucial flagbearer election, the Chicago Chapter reminded members that the red, white, and blue colors of the party symbolize a shared destiny. The Chapter encouraged all supporters to focus on constructive dialogue and policy-driven campaigns rather than personal attacks.
“After January 31, the NPP must not emerge divided but strengthened. Victory begins with unity. Unity begins with us,” the statement concluded.
