The Spanish giant, Real Madrid CF, have announced that they have decided to part ways with manager Xabi Alonso with immediate effect.
“Real Madrid CF announces that, by mutual agreement between the club and Xabi Alonso, it has been decided to end his time as first team coach,” the statement from the club read.
Alonso, a former player and a legend of the team appeared favorites after Carlo Ancelotti left to take the reigns as the manager for the Brazilian National team in June, 2025.
Xabi Alonso has enjoyed some positive showings at the helm of affairs with the team. That notwithstanding, the withstanding the 44-year-old tactician has largely faced daunting difficulties as a manager, especially over the past month or two, with injuries, poor results, and dressing room unrest causing problems.
Top management of Real Madrid FC earlier warned Alonso he’d be axed if the team continued with its poor showings in Laliga after Madrid dropped valuable points against minnows in the league.
Alonso’s sacking comes just a day after Barcelona pipped Real Madrid to win the Spanish Super Cup for the second consecutive time in Saudi Arabia.
