Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has appealed to the Ghana Health Service to show mercy to a staff nurse who was recently queried for alleged unprofessional comments made against him.

The nurse, identified as Ms. Bernice Aboagye, became the subject of public discussion after a query letter issued to her surfaced on social media. The letter reportedly cited her for comments deemed unprofessional toward the Health Minister.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Health and signed by its spokesperson, Tony Goodman, the Minister commended the Ghana Health Service for upholding professionalism and enforcing its code of conduct. However, he urged the Service to handle the matter with compassion.

Mr. Akandoh said both he and the government welcome constructive criticism and differing views from health workers, adding that openness to diverse opinions strengthens the sector.

He also encouraged health workers to express their views responsibly and respectfully, without resorting to insults, noting that mutual respect fosters the growth and development of the health system.

The Ministry emphasized that it does not oppose peaceful demonstrations, describing them as legitimate expressions of frustration and constitutionally protected rights. However, it cautioned that the use of abusive language or indiscipline during such protests would not be tolerated.

The statement further reminded all health professionals to remain professional and circumspect in their public communications and social media engagements.

The Ministry’s intervention reflects an effort to promote understanding and maintain harmony between health authorities and frontline worker.
