The camp of New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful Kennedy Ohene Agyapong is reportedly experiencing internal turmoil, with several of his trusted confidants said to have quietly defected.
Sources indicate that the inner circle of Kennedy Agyapong’s 2028 presidential campaign has somewhat collapsed, with former campaign manager Kwame Owusu among those who have allegedly exited the team.
Also named among the departed figures are Ambassador Edward Boateng, who is said to have served as chief branding strategist, and businessman Kofi Oppong Bio.
According to sources within the opposition NPP, Ambassador Boateng is the most likely of the three to join former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s emerging 2028 campaign team.
Boateng is credited with crafting much of the visual branding and messaging strategy during Agyapong’s 2023 campaign and is reportedly being considered a valuable addition to Bawumia’s communications and strategy unit ahead of the 2026 primaries and the 2028 general elections.
Meanwhile, Kwame Owusu and Kofi Oppong Bio are said to be aligning themselves with the camps of Dr Bryan Acheampong and Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, both of whom are believed to be building coalitions in preparation for the 2028 flagbearership contest.
There is also speculation that these two camps may be negotiating for running mate slots, leveraging their growing influence.
In response to these reported defections, the Kennedy Agyapong campaign has downplayed their significance, suggesting the individuals in question were “moles” who were deliberately identified and removed from the team.
As of now, none of the three individuals alleged to have parted ways with the Agyapong campaign have issued official statements confirming or denying the reports.
During the NPP’s last presidential primaries, Kennedy Agyapong secured 40% of the votes, placing second to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who subsequently became the party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 elections.
