“What Have They Achieved?” – Afenyo-Markin Critiques NDC’s Performance

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Parliament, has launched a strong critique against the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), questioning their achievements since returning to power.

Speaking at the Young Commons Forum at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), the Effutu MP expressed concerns over the administration’s focus on persecuting political opponents instead of addressing critical issues outlined in their manifesto.

In his address, Afenyo-Markin highlighted what he described as the “vicious cycle of political persecution” within the current government. He argued that rather than prioritizing the welfare of Ghanaians, the NDC has been more invested in targeting those who oppose them politically.

With less than three months until the end of the year, Afenyo-Markin posed a crucial question: “What have they achieved?” He pointed to the growing challenges of youth unemployment and asked whether the government had taken any significant steps to reduce the high levels of joblessness or whether the situation had worsened.

“The youth unemployment situation—have they added to the unemployment or have they taken more of the youth into employment? These are the real questions we should be asking as citizens,” Afenyo-Markin said.

He also emphasized the need for Ghanaians to engage more critically with the policies of the government, urging a shift away from trivial online squabbles to more constructive discourse.
