ACCRA – The Ghanaian boxing fraternity has been thrown into deep mourning following the passing of rising star Ernest Akushey, affectionately known in the sporting circles as “Baubali.”
His tragic death occurred barely two weeks after he endured heavy punches during a bout at the Bukom Boxing Arena, leaving him battling for his life. Despite medical attention and the hopes of his family, fans, and the entire boxing community, Baubali could not recover from the injuries he sustained.
News of his demise has left many in tears, as the young boxer was considered one of the promising talents emerging from Bukom, a community renowned for producing some of Ghana’s greatest fighters. Supporters recall his determination, his fearless style in the ring, and the passion he carried whenever he laced his gloves.
The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) and fellow boxers have expressed their condolences, describing Baubali’s passing as a huge blow to Ghana’s boxing family.
“This is a sad day for us all. Baubali was young, determined, and had a bright future ahead. His passing is a reminder of the risks our boxers take whenever they step into the ring,” a senior GBA official said.
Family members and fans have since gathered at his Bukom residence to mourn, with tributes pouring in from across the boxing fraternity and beyond.
