A position of the Ghana Armed Forces serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon has come under missile attack amid escalating hostilities between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Hezbollah.

In a press release issued on Friday (6 March 2026), the Ghana Armed Forces said the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters within the UN peacekeeping mission was struck by two missiles between 1745 and 1752 local time.

According to the military, two Ghanaian soldiers were critically injured, while another officer suffered trauma during the incident.

“The Officers’ Mess facility also got hit and has been burnt down completely,” the statement noted.

The injured personnel are currently receiving treatment at a Level One Medical Bunker and are reported to be in stable condition, while arrangements are underway to evacuate them to the UNIFIL Headquarters Referral Hospital for further care.

The Ghana Armed Forces assured the public that despite the attack, Ghanaian troops in the area remain safe, as many are currently sheltered in underground bunkers due to the fragile security situation.

Meanwhile, the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has lodged a protest over the incident at the United Nations headquarters in New York, urging all parties involved in the conflict to respect their obligations under international law and ensure the safety of peacekeepers deployed in the theatre.

The statement was signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces.

Ghana is one of the long-standing troop-contributing countries to the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, where its soldiers are deployed to help monitor hostilities and maintain stability along the border region.
